John Arbon Appledore

$37.00

Appledore is packed full of woolly bounce and a smattering of lustre. It is loosely spun with a distinctive rustic halo, reminiscent of a shetland yarn. All the fibre in this yarn has been sourced from the west country of the UK, close to the mill. It's 40% Devon Closewool 40% Romney 20% Exmoor Blueface. This is a  grippy,  toothy yarn perfect for colour work and is very hard wearing/pill resistant. This yarn can be worked at both loose and tight gauge. The halo of fibres will expand to fill in gaps between stitches. We love this yarn.

The colours are beautifully curated, and have a depth of tone seen usually in traditional tweed fabrics. They are weathered and most are blended with four or 5 base shades. These shades are all named after different varieties of west country apples and they are wonderfully eccentric.

100 gram skein, 250 metres 3.75 - 5.5mm needles

20 stitches x 27 rows = 10 cm 4mm needle

John Arbon Textiles is a small family mill in Devon in the UK. They use rescued vintage machinery and breed specific sheep fibre (local and organically grown whenever possible) to create their wonderful yarns. The ethics and artistry of this company is second to none.
